The period of the Roman conquest of England and Scotland. Forged iron, 9 ¾” length of slender form with a slightly down-curved blade and thick tang, originally wrapped in leather with ring pommel. The blade of delicate fighting form with slightly concave “hollow ground” facet and thin section optimizing its efficiency as a slashing weapon. As well, the narrow profile made it a fine thrusting weapon. Optimizing both functions, this example is the Celtic fighting knife in its fully developed form. Professionally conserved condition.
