Late 19th-early 20th century. This sword is a product of a revival of interest in antique swords and daggers which started in the 1860’s and evolved into an industry in Toledo, Spain which revived the earlier skills and traditions for etched decoration on blades. This example has a 23 3/4” blade. The first third is decorated in scrolling foliage both sides and TOLEDO, in mirror image applied by illiterate workmen! The balance mostly smooth with some distress, consistent with its period, as shown. The cup guard has a rolled edge and is decorated in scrolling foliage. The grip is wire wrapped in traditional form. Great overall form and genuine age character.
