Probably Victorian in response to the renewed interest in Medieval arms and armor created by the Eglinton Tournament of 1839 which inspired Baronial Architecture including armories in need of such weapons. 47 5/8” length with 36” hand forged and hammer marked blade. The style closely according with Records of the Medieval Sword, Oakeshott, XIIIa #7 in the national Museum of Scotland. The author explains how, while the swords seem clumsy in the hand, when swinged, in the manner for which they were designed, with the arm locked straight and the back muscles providing the motion, they are functional and lethal. This example shows genuine aging with stable mature rust.
