Ex: Baptist Missionary Society Collection. Forged iron, over 29” in length! Leaf-shaped blade with some original forging scale to the middle. Open seam conical socket extending as medially ridged on both sides. Uniform dark patina. Brought back from the Congo by missionaries who circulated the collection in England to raise funds for the missions no Mission Sunday. That practice was stopped in the 1930s and the collection stored until it was sold at auction by Christie's at their South Kensington (London) saleroom in the 1980s. We purchased the entire collection.
