9" x 6". Delicately woven from twisted flax and colored in red, green and natural brown bands with colored fringe along the side and woven shoulder strap. The face decorated with tiny nested conical shells, four in a row, the left clusters all of six shells and the others all of eight. The base with a complete band of matching shells. Evidently collected new, showing no damage, but dry from storage. C.1860-80. Classic Maori finger weaving.
