Early example, 50 ½” length, of particularly heavy proportions for these. The black palm wood point of diamond section cut with four segments of long triangular section barbs. The bottom segment with a broad band of fine split cane woven within/under the barbs. As the adjacent segment is larger than the band, it must have been woven within the barbs. The intricacy of the weaving alone is impressive but doing it within the barb “cage” challenges the imagination, as there seems to be insufficient room for fingers to do the weaving. Fine woven collar to the socket as well. Age encrustation, predominately to one side suggesting that it spent decades laid, probably sacrificially.
