15 7/8” length, carved from a single piece of wood from the inner face of the sapwood and the heartwood producing the contrasting color effect popular on Zulu war clubs. Tear shaped bowl. The cylindrical handle slightly curved with raised double ribbon decoration the butt, ribbons and bowl edge with scorch decoration. Elegant in its simplicity, it belies the fact the handle was entirely free hand carved as the raised decoration precluded machine turning. Beautifully made and obviously never used, this tour de force was probably a gift, likely for a wedding.
