Evolutionary form not yet developed to the large head, short haft which later, lasted two centuries. 16" total length, made from a single piece of linear grained wood, predating the use of the root cluster for the head. Haft flared to both ends and egg shaped head decorated with lines of incised dots. The butt pierced for a wrist thong. Uniform rich very deep patina. The head with wear over a few old splinters. Remnants of old red sealing wax, used to attach collection notes, indicative of collection by English explorers in the 18th century.
