Spirally fluted leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. 30” diamond section blade, decorated first half with foliage US, blank escutcheon for owner’s initials and military arms. The decoration crisp and finely done. The forte with retailer’s name J. A. JOEL & CO New York N. Y. See Smithsonian museum #AF*58575M and National Museum of American History, #211312 for identical examples with the Joel &Co name. Good clean example with great Civil War character. Blade shows glossy  patina. Brass mounted scabbard. The body plating worn with a couple small spots lacking.
