Danelaw England. Forged iron of squared oval form, 3 1/8” length. Excavated but sound with crisp edges and good profile. Struck with a flint (plentiful in England) to produce a spark on leaves, bark strands or other tinder which could then be blown into a flame and start a larger fire.
