3 7/8” height, red terracotta, footed turnip form with large flared lip and triple suspensions. Faded red annular decoration and some calcification from burial. Made to hang near a water source and used to both dip and drink from. It was common to dip the water and let it hang for a few minutes du which the evaporation from the surface would cool the contents somewhat. Ex Paxton Park, Cambridgeshire, England, the property of Lord Esme Gordon (died 1900) and possibly found on the estate.
