ROMAN OIL LAMP TIME OF CHRIST, 37BC-50AD

Buff terra cotta, 3 1/2” (3.48”) length of “Herodian” style dating 37BC-50AD, Judea. The form identified by its circular body and flared spout with elegant side returns. Raised edge filler surrounded by leaf motif. The spout base with a votive (sacrificial) bundle, probably wheat. Excellent with very light surface adhesion from burial. The specific type used in Judea in Christ’s lifetime.
