Roman legionaries wore sword and dagger belts which were protected by metal mounts which allowed for flexibility yet provided protection from a sword or spear cut. They were, in fact, a form of armor and prevented the loss of the weapon in combat. This example dating mid to late 2nd century AD. 1 1/8” height in fine original patina. It is a genuine ancient Legionaries belt mount on modern sterling silver “dog tag” pendant suspended from a sterling silver chain for contemporary wear.
