Just over 1” length. Arched body and fan tail. The head more closely resembles a shark, but the tail and blowhole clearly identify it as a dolphin. Dolphins were both revered and feared by Romans and often depicted with vicious toothy mouths. Numerous examples of this image are preserved, with a significant number in mosaics, many with Cupid astride the dolphin. Well modeled and excellent preservation with original detail and surfaces throughout. Professionally refurbished with the gold surface restored for modern wear.
