GRECO ROMAN FUNERARY BOWL, 500-100BC

Buff terra cotta, 4 5/8” diameter with thickened edge ridged waist and broad flared foot. “Ritually killed” with a distinct kill hole, chipped from both sides. Buried as grave goods for service in the after life. Notably, this example has a firing crack on the bottom and probably would not have been suitable for food. A bit of Greco Roman recycling and thriftiness! Quite crisp with fine color and very light soil adhesion as it likely was buried in a bundle.
