Dating to the Coptic Period which brought Christianity to Egypt, then part of the Roman Empire. Terra cotta, ridged bun form, about 1” diameter with a large spindle hole. Excellent with remnants of red pigment. Used with a wood rod in the hole to spin wool and flax. The hole size here indicates a heavier cord, probably wool.
