This study was discovered by Hogarth’s wife after his death and printed in 1781. It is a study uncharacteristically for Hogarth, done in the classical Romantic style. Some experts believe he did it to demonstrate the diversity of his skills. Another example is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, # 32.35(201). 14” x 8 ½” plate, professionally double mated to 19" x 23" for framing.
