VIKING WARRIOR’S SHIELD RING, 10TH-11TH CENTURY, SIZE 10 ½

Gilt bronze, size 10 1/2 with 4.5mm thick rounded face band supporting the large shield shaped bezel with stipple bordered edges. The field is asymmetrical with a wheel, probably representing the moon, opposite a small circle emanating radials, probably representing the sun. In Viking mythology, the sun and moon were brothers, Sol and Mani. It undoubtedly had supernatural cosmic significance, now lost. Excellent and professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
