10th-11th century AD. Just under 1 1/8” height plus its original connecting link for a total of 1 7/8” in length. Bronze is shaped like a duck’s foot and intricately detailed with raised claws and connecting web. A burial at Viden, Denmark contained the body of a woman of wealth and status buried with henbane seeds, which have hallucinogenic properties, and a wand as well as other objects. From these, archeologists concluded that she was a seeress or sorceress. (Among Vikings, only women were sorcerers.) The grave contained a necklace hung with three duck feet pendants very similar to this. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored, on a Sterling silver 18” neck chain modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.  As fine for quality, detail and condition as they come.
