Oval bezel with scalloped edge and radial quadrants as found on rings displaying the Star of Bethlehem, and probably dating this example to the earlier centuries of the period. Favored by travelers, particularly pilgrims, and thought to bring good fortune and ensure safety. See Ancient Rings, Pollio, P.102 for another example.
