FINE ROMAN PROSTITUTE'S RING, C.100-300 AD, SIZE ½

Gilt bronze, size ½ for wear on the small finger as was the custom. Deeply rounded face band, 2.9mm width. Rounded conical bezel, perhaps an anatomical reference, superficially imitating a gemstone and blatantly advertising the intentions of the wearer. Roman prostitutes were typically adolescents, largely slaves. Prostitution was practiced openly with brothels sometimes sharing doors with libraries.  Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored.
