Peterson #76. Brass hilt with wire wrapped leather covered grip. 29 3/4" curved broad fullered s.e. blade with narrow back fuller to the middle, unmarked. Original brass mounted leather scabbard with stitched seam to the back. Blade shows mottled gray patina and two small nicks, negligible for the period. This pattern was copied from the French. As with most Civil War officer's swords, it was produced in Germany for purchase by American officers. Rarely found with the scabbard intact and complete.
