Interesting example made from available materials including a 9 3/8” triangular blade and recurved iron guard decorated with a diamond and circle pattern. The large grip is of stacked leather circles and a reeded elongated domed pommel. The grip and guard are especially heavy, indicating an owner with large hands. The blade is strictly for thrusting with little defensive capability. Likely the side knife of a farmer who went to war possibly otherwise armed with only a spear as firearms were in short supply at the onset of the Revolution.
