AMERICAN INDIAN CADDO POTTERY BOWL C.1200-1500 AD.

 Brown clay, pinch pot construction, semi burnished, with mottled coloration. 6 1/4" diameter and 1 1/2" height.  From a group identified as "Killough pinched." A similar example, found in the Upper Neches River Basin, northwestern Texas, is preserved at the Gregg County Historical Museum, Longview, Texas, Jones collection #2003.08.1755. The upper edge with four crisp stylus impressed bands. Intact and excellent as rarely encountered The Caddo Mississippians were the mound builders of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Their great success at agriculture, particularly the cultivation of corn, fostered a culture rich in art including pottery which is today highly prized.
