Meiji period, 1868-1912. 5 1/8” diameter of low angular form. Very dark brown body color with a lighter interior. The top with a family crest (mon) is repeated three times. The crest is Take which represents bamboo, (Hawley p.44) and as with European armorial devices like the rampant lion, was used by several ennobled (samurai) families, including Akiyama, Hotta, Ishikawa, and Tateyama. A masterpiece from our own collection.
