Zulu War period, pre 1879. Two piece wood with separate top which engages the spout and slides on common side cords which served as its suspension. Both surfaces carved in geometric patterns. Surface well worn from use to a lovely deep patina with some encrustation. Both pieces with opened crack as is typical of African wood art and objects. Sharing snuff was a bonding ritual among Zulu warriors. On plexiglas base display stand. Ex: Christies London.
