1879 War recovery. 27 1/2" length. Iron head with rounded edge and tapered support, shows glossy black patina over original forged surface with lamination evident and minor imperfections. Wood haft with slightly swelled butt and bulbous terminal with stepped base. Sound and undamaged with heavy surface encrustation from extended use leading up to the war suggesting that it was a family weapon, possibly dating as early as Shake.
