Zulu War of 1879 trophy. 14" point of elongated leaf shape, well forged with adjacent surfaces alternately stepped in and out. Indented base. Socket wrapped with fine basket weave split rattan (few minor flaws) and just the splintered upper part of the haft remaining. Wonderful untouched age character. The point with glossy brown patina over old frosty finish. The edges showing sharpening on a rock, from its time of use. That feature is very rarely seen and accords with the use of the assegai as a slashing weapon. Otherwise, typical battle souvenir for a trooper who was limited in the size of his "kit" and unable to return a full length spear and thus, broke the head off.
