The 14 3/8" T back blade with arsenal designation and dated January 1879. Horn scale grips with iron mounts in characteristic Zanzabari form. The faces engraved in geometric patterns honoring Islamic constraints. Iron scabbard with ball terminal and double ring suspension. The front engraved overall to match. Original braided wool arm band, faded. The pommel mount with short blemish along the edge, otherwise, the iron bright with crisp decoration. Horn dry with slight grain separation. Light gray patina to the blade. Dating to the period of Tippu Tip in Zanzibar and probably traded from Djibouti where the French established presence in the 1880.
