Napoleonic, conforming to the 1796 pattern specifications. Hilt of slightly heavy proportions to accommodate the intricate and profuse decoration comprising bands of foliage to the guard and shell edges. Double shells, one folding with hand engraved sun bursts. Ribbed urn form pommel with draped foliage. Silver chevron wire wrapped grip per specifications. The hilt elements of jewelry quality with minute hand finished detail throughout and retaining 100% heavy fire gilt. 26 3/4 diamond section blade etched and gilt first half with foliage, military splay and crowned GR cipher. The second half etched only right out to the point with drapes, foliage and arms splay. The entire blade with dark blue/black finish. The gold intact but for the ridge crest only. Some old minor speckles mixed into the field, barely noticeable. Grip wire a little loose from shrinkage of the wood core. Fabulous quality worthy of Wellington himself!
