Earliest form (Oakshott type 1). Hilt with a diagonal supported by two radial leaf shaped bars. Two double swelled medial bars above. Iron pommel directly descended from the Gothic Venetian broadswords. 29 7/8" tapered d.e. blade of heavy diamond section. While the origin of the schiavona cannot be dated with precision, this example dates to its very earliest production, perhaps as early as 1600.
