See Peterson #11. Brass hilt with plumed helmet pommel and reeded bone grip. 25 11/2” broad d.e. fighting blade, with broad central fuller, bright with minor slight gray patina and good polish. Original brass mounted leather scabbard. Carried by sergeants who led in battle. At the onset of the Civil War, the US standing Army comprised 16,000 men only.
