Probably Swedish. Silvered iron hilt with elegantly swept quillons and double ring guards with pierced plates. Silver wire wrapped grip. 37” double edged blade of fine mechanical Damascus watered steel, probably reforged from a medieval sword, struck with a maker’s mark at the forte. This is an arming sword, made for mounted use in armor. At the time this sword was made and used, Sweden was a major world power, entering the Thirty Years War in 1630 and largely influencing its outcome.
