Mahdist period, C.1880s. 34 5/8” broad unfullered blade. Tapered diamond section cross guard with long ridged langets. Leather covered wheel form pommel and broad leather band wrapped grip. Blade with glossy mottled gray patina. It is widely accepted that some blades for kaskaras are remounted from European swords captured during the Crusades.
