Mahdist War period C.1885. 35” d.e. blade, double fullered for the first half. Diamond-section quillon with ridged langets. Black leather covered grip and mushroom form pommel. Blade and guard with scattered oxidation and good color. The grip and pommel sound and tight with an old congealed surface. A classic example of the swords carried by the thousands of followers of the Mad Mahti, who perished at the hands of the British.
