Mahdist War of 1885. 7 1/2” curved d.e. blade etched with geometric Thuluth script in four panels, each side. Etching crisp with good contrast. Shaped bone grip with horn cap (shrinkage crack to the back). The scabbard decorated in maroon, black and white trade beaded lattice suspending 7 cowries which were imported and highly valued. The tip covered in leather. Beadwork complete with minor distortions only. These daggers were worn by the Dervish followers of the Mahdi who were closest to him.
