Second half of the 19th century. Early form with hilt finely made in three pieces of black horn with brass and iron elements. 9 1/8" asymmetrical blade with low medial ridge finely forged. Hide scabbard, slightly warped, and with light surface encrustation. Exceptional early example. Somalia, on the Arabian Sea, across the Gulf of Aden from Yemen, has for centuries been a blend of African and Arabic cultures heavily involved in the slave trade to the Arabic world as well as slave owners for Somali plantations.
