19th century Iroquois. 3 3/4" width of tear section. The front and flap heavily beaded in a bird on a branch with foliage. Edges with bead loops, partially untacked, but appears complete. Reverse with a wreath surrounding FROM NIAGARA FALLS. Niagara Falls was a travel and honeymoon destination made accessible by the Erie Canal which opened in 1825. The first excursion boat, Maid of the Mist, was in service in 1846. Indian made beaded souvenirs, both functional and whimsical, date to those early years.
