Originally plated, just under 1" high, symmetrical, with triple nub terminals and a central diamond with a nub tipped saltire, one side. Very fine glossy patina with the suspension intact. Saxons were late to accept Christianity and did so only after their defeat by Charlemagne in the early 9th century. It's possible that these crosses were worn as an indication of that acceptance and by extension, submission to Carolingian rule.
