Produced in 1857 by Napoleon III issued to survivors who fought with Napoleon 1792-1815. Obverse with portrait of Napoleon bearing the mark (an anchor) of the designer, Albert-Desire Barre, Reverse with motto essentially saying that Napoleon carried the thought of his companions with him until his death. Struck on heavy copper rich bronze with crisp coin like detail. Red and green silk ribbon. While these were produced in quantity and surviving examples do turn up, this one is virtually mint, medal and ribbon, and no other that we found came close for condition.
