Roman nails, some claiming to be “crucifixion nails” appear on the market each year at this time. There is no evidence to suggest that special nails were used for crucifixions, however it is rare that any offered are of sufficient length to actually serve the purpose. This Roman nail is 7 ½” long, much longer that a dollar bill and of sufficient length to penetrate both human feet and the footrest. It is by far, the largest and best crafted that we have seen. It is fair to say that it is truly representative of those used for crucifixions, if not intended for that purpose.
