Romans were fastidious about hygiene (NB the baths) and removal of all body hair was part of the grooming process. These silver tweezers, 2 ¾” long, were used for that purpose and the use of silver suggests ownership by a person of significant import. A recent exhibition at Wroxeter in Shropshire, England features over 50 pairs of such tweezers along with other artifacts. A CNN article on the exhibition, illustrating tweezers such as this and their use, is available at https://www.cnn.com/style/article/roman-tweezers-discovery-gbr-scli-intl/index.html. The article neither shows nor mentions silver examples, only bronze, attesting to the rarity of this pair. With a certificate of authenticity.
