The bottom with distinct conical protrusion representing an extreme variant of the Roman thickened bottom feature. These rings were used to open jewelry boxes, the ownership of which was prestigious. As a result, many were made for show only and worn where no such box existed. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored.
