9th-11th century AD. 5 ½” length, forged iron. Tapered shank with turned over end like a crochet hook. Tip lacking. Tapered faceted tang opposite, to receive a wood handle. Used to make and repair fish nets which were basic to Viking culture from their dependence on the sea for livelihood as well as transportation.
