So-called sword hilt type (by Peterson) as illustrated #25, Daggers and Fighting Knives of the Western World. 13 ½” length with 7 ¾” diamond section blade and straight cross guard. Bevel edged wheel pommel as found on knightly swords of the period. See Oakeshott #XIIa.1 for a sword with matching hilt dated 1300-50. Excellent excavated condition. Impressive proportions with a hilt able to accommodate both hands to drive the blade through the mail coat of a fallen foe.
