Designed to penetrate the factory made mail armor produced in Birmingham England and delivered to the Egyptian army. Thrusting length, 58", for hand to hand fighting. Slightly tapered natural wood haft decorated with bands of wire wrap and trade tacks, shows rich dark brown patina from handling. The decoration intact with some minor raveling to the wire. Elongated leaf shaped head similar to the shalazieh with the tip forged out to an elongated bodkin shape, suitable for thrusting and penetrating mail armor as well as slashing on the back stroke. Integral forged tang set in a forged seam conical socket, further evidence that it was adapted specifically for this purpose. Head shows some forged lamination and storage rusting in congealed preservative.
