Single lower canon plate for the right forearm. 7” length, finely forged with the outer edge shaped with an overlapping tab for alignment and reinforcement of the seam, and pierced for two hinges. The inner edge with similar tap and a locking pin. Then back edge with a line bordered half roll. The front edge with a tall narrow forward roll on forming wire. That feature, which requires greater skill and labor to fit the raw edge to the plate surface is what distinguishes this element as Gothic. Edge rolls were formed with the raw inside that element rather than out as here, after about 1490. Fine quality and excellent condition. Ex John Woodman Higgins Armory, Worcester, MA.
