17th-18th century. Shaped wood hilt and scabbard profusely inlaid with brass wire work and pewter piques surrounding ranks of mother of pearl inlays. The back matching but without the pearl. Virtually complete with just a wire or two out of place. The 6 1/4" blade with broad and narrow fullers, cut down from a captured European, probably Venetian, hanger. Crisp as reshaped. Testimony to the conflicts between the Venetian Republic and Ottoman invaders in the Balkans throughout both centuries.
