According in detail with the US M.1860 Staff & Field Officer's sword but for the shell guard which is modeled in particularly high relief with an elegantly dressed seated male holding a swaddled baby. Behind, a charming street scene, perhaps Paris. The 28 1/2" blade with K St V and a cross. Reverse with cross, foliage and Baltimore retailer's name. Knights of Saint Vincent is sparsely mentioned but further information, including whether this is the Saint Vincent de Paul Society is lacking. We were not able to find a single example of another sword so marked. Time will tell. A heavily gilt fine quality sword and scabbard in excellent preservation.
