Late 18th century-1800. Characteristic long elegant form based on the Italian model. 12 1/2” .70 caliber barrel with small sighting rib flanked by simple foliage. Scrolling foliage to the breech. Slab side lock with foliage engraving in three vignettes, each with a distinct raised sword-like device repeated, perhaps identifying the town or workshop of the engraver. Brass furniture. One piece stock well carved in foliage and bearing a pewter escutcheon to the wrist. Good glossy patina throughout. An excellent example of these classic horsemen pistols.
